To become a recorded AKC champion the dog must defeat a specified number of other dogs in a series of dog shows.  Points are given based on the number of defeats in one given show.

In the conformation ring the dogs are judges based on how closely they fit the breed standard according to the particular judge. The breed standard is considered the "blueprint" for that breed.  Click below to see the Norfolk Terrier breed standard.

An AKC champion title proves the dog adheres to the AKC breed standard set for the breed.
